Psychotherapy and counselling
with Researching Psychology
I have worked as a psychotherapist for thirty years and am now a Doctor of Psychotherapy and Chartered Psychologist through completion of my doctoral research that gave me entry to the British Psychological Society. My career in mental health started in mindfulness based training in 1989. The focus of my work has been mental health and well being and I am passionate about improving the mental health of the nation. In 2014/15 I worked as Associate Professor at Richmond, The American University, in London teaching models of counselling and psychotherapy to Psychology Undergraduates and I have written three books (see publications) on the use of mindfulness in therapeutic work with children. Mind Kind: Your Child’s Mental Health was published in 2019 by Exisle Publishing. I have worked within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in the NHS (Camhs).
I am trained in treatments such as CBT, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Trauma Treatment). Over the covid period I completed training in ACT Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with Russ Harris and Steve Hayes the founder of the model. This is a philosophy and research based treatment which I prefer to use combining Mindfulness with CBT and helping people to move from pain in their mental life to more hope and vitality.
Please note that my career path over many decades has trained me in Counselling and Psychotherapy for which I am accredited with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am also a researching psychologist and a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society. This is not the same as being a diagnostician and prescriber in mental health. For this service you would need a Clinical Psychologist or Psychiatrist or Counselling Psychologist registered with the Health Care Porfessions Council and you could go to the HCPC website for information about this.
