Psychotherapy, Psychology and Counselling
I have worked as a psychotherapist for twenty five years and am now a Doctor of Psychotherapy and Chartered Psychologist. My career in mental health started in mindfulness based training in 1989. The focus of my work has been mental health and well being and I am passionate about the subject both for children and adults. In 2014/15 I worked as Associate Professor at Richmond, The American University, in London teaching models of counselling and psychotherapy to Psychology Undergraduates and I have written three books (see publications) on the use of mindfulness in therapeutic work with children and Mind Kind: Your Child’s Mental Health was published in 2019 by Exisle Publishing. I have worked within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in the NHS (Camhs).
In 2017-2019 I was Chair of the British Psychological Society Psychotherapy Section and am currently Chair of the Ethics Committee for United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy Children and Young People Section.
I offer a psychotherapy, counselling and child & adult psychology service in Devon through the Exeter Psychological Therapies service, find out more at Exeter Mental Health and Wellbeing Clinic where I work with two colleagues who are also highly qualified in their specific fields.
I am able to offer modern treatments such as CBT, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Trauma Treatment). I am currently training with Russ Harris in the use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy which is a treatment that I prefer to use combining Mindfulness with CBT and helping people to move from pain in their mental life to more hope and vitality. We also have qualified child counsellors and play therapists available for work with small children who need support with difficulties through play. We offer behavioural and attachment based therapies to parents who are worried about their children’s behaviour. Or you may be just wanting to engage in counselling and personal development and relationship work.
